Local Engagement Strategy for Waad Al-Shamaal Industrial City Project

This program called for the development of a new city in Saudi Arabia. GDS was contracted to enable local content in constructing the new city’s infrastructure and retaining local content supply of goods and services for maintenance and sustainable long-term employment. GDS was contracted directly by one of the world’s leading construction firms to assist the Saudi government and country’s leading mineral and mining corporation in initial stages of establishing the new city located in northwest Saudi Arabia near Iraqi and Jordanian borders. Specifically, GDS provided expertise in developing a strategy for a series of initiatives to uplift the local community by creating employment and income-generating opportunities in the area. Target markets were villages and towns in the northern region. GDS provided best practice approaches to community engagement, local business development, institutional capacity building, community development, and public private partnerships in support of localization.
